2013 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Monfortino (3-bottle sealed OWC, ex-domaine 2019)

A Rare Wine Co. Import

From the moment it was released, 2013 Monfortino was coveted, quickly settling into a price range of $1000 to $1500 a bottle. That resulted in a lot of the wine being traded back and forth between continents. Few sources could offer stock that came directly to them from Conterno. Even fewer could offer the wine in still-sealed original cases. That's what we have here.

Antonio Galloni: “99 rating ... brilliant, precise, focused and nuanced, with the classic sense of austerity it has always shown from barrel. In the 2013, readers will find a biting, vibrant Monfortino built along super-classic lines that includes vintages like 1996 and 1999, but the 2013 has more finesse that is the result of a the slight refinements and evolution that have taken place here over the last decade .... (Drink between 2023-2063)“

Critic's Notes

Wine Spectator, 99

“Subtle aromas of cherry, wild herb and tobacco introduce this sleek, complex version, while cherry, strawberry, loam, iron and tobacco flavors build in intensity to the extended finish. But what truly defines this superb and silky Barolo is the texture and harmony, with a fine weave to the dense tannins. All the components come together on the lingering aftertaste. Best from 2022 through 2050.”

Antonio Galloni - Vinous Media, 99

“... Crystalline and so precise...the aromatics are quite inviting... Tar, rose petal, spice and cedar open with a bit of time in the glass... the best is clearly yet to come....”
