Barbaresco’s Buried Treasure.

You don’t need to dig too deep to understand why Barbaresco’s Cascina Luisin should be on all Nebbiolo lovers’ radar.

It’s not just that its Barbaresco’s third oldest wine-producing estate, after Gaja and Marchesi di Gresy.

Nor is it only Luisin’s thoroughly Old School methods—including macerations of up to two months—which date back to the estate’s founding in 1913.

Nor is it that Luisin is one of only four Barbaresco estates with vines in both of the village’s two bluest-chip addresses: Asili and Rabajà. (The others, by the way, are Bruno Giacosa, Gaja and, of course, the Produttori.

Nor is it the extraordinary age of Luisin’s vines: in Asili all over 65 years and in Rabajà over 45 years old.

Do you want more? We saved the best for last.

Cascina Luisin has something that none of the others have: vines in Rabajà-Bas (pictured in the photo above, along with Rabajà). This is not only Barbaresco’s tiniest cru at 1.8 hectares, it occupies a unique position, separated from Rabajà itself by Muncagota. The exposure is stellar, facing largely west, producing wines of power and richness. Luisin owns more than half of it.

If you’ve never heard of Rabajà-Bas, that's simple. The cru needed its own "MGA" for Barbaresco from this site to be sold as Rabajà-Bas. And that wasn't granted until some time in the past decade. Luisin waited a few more years, until the great 2019 vintage, to produce its inaugural release.

Fortunately, our partner Neal Rosenthal is now Luisin’s U.S. importer. That put us in the catbird seat for the release of Luisin’s 2019s, and especially their three iconic crus: Asili, Rabajà and Rabajà-Bas

We’re pleased to offer the three wines direct from Luisin’s cellar, both by the bottle at $69.95 each, and as a 3-bottle assortment for just $195.
